Farewell Liverpool.

6 Locks, 6½ Miles. Now moored at Litherland BW yard.

Fourteen days in Salthouse Dock has just flown by with something to do everyday. Today was our booked passage out of the docks back to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Once clear of the Stanley Dock locks the option is to stay overnight at Eldonian Village or carry on to Litherland which is much closer to Netherton Swing bridge, which is the first BW operated swing bridge on our schedule tomorrow. As we have to be at Netherton by 8.30am the latter made more sense as we won’t have to get up at sunrise to be there on time.

Liverpool 425 Memorial to the women and children killed in the !940-42 Blitz.  Situated on the waterfront in the grounds of St Nicholas Liverpools’ Parish Church

We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to anybody contemplating visiting Liverpool Docks. Don’t be put off that there is a waiting list to come down here because there isn’t. Five working days notice is all that is required. While we have been in the dock there has never been more than 3 boats leave or arrive ( they can take 6 in either direction per day) and there was at least 2 days when there were no boat movements whatsoever. So what are you waiting for? Get booking.

Along the way today we passed some youngsters in Kayak’s and they said to watch out for the water taxi just ahead. Well it was a taxi in shape, a London taxi cab moulded in fibreglass and turned upside down and made into a boat with an outboard motor. In the clear water, yes this stretch of canal the water in not quite crystal clear, you could see where the windows were painted on the appropriate places.

Liverpool 455 Taxi! Well not quite.

1734 locks, 3605½ miles, 66 Tunnels, 63 swing bridges and 53 lift bridges since Nov 2006
