Monday came around all too soon and it was time to leave Himatangi Beach Motor Camp. None of us were in any great hurry and we were all hoping to miss the holiday traffic with a late departure.
We only travelled as far as Geoff and Eileen's in Otaki pleasantly surprised at the lightness of the traffic.We planned on staying only 2 nights long enough to knock the garden into shape once more before we all head down south next week.
Last night Geoff arrived home saying that there had been an accident at the end of the road and a campervan was lying on it’s side. It transpired that the camper was displaying the NZMCA wings insignia so Geoff and I went back to see if we could offer any assistance to a fellow NZMCA (New Zealand Motor Caravan Association) member. As it turned out the sole male occupant was being well looked after by the Fire Brigade Medics and was in no need of any further help.
How did this happen on a straight stretch of road when both car and camper were travelling in opposite directions?
This morning I completed any outstanding gardening chores before we left Otaki, this time heading back to Kathryn’s in Stokes Valley. We will stay here until Sunday sorting out all our last minute business before heading down to the docks on Sunday night in preparation for an early morning sailing across Cook Strait. This will be the start of our South Island Safari. Watch this space!
